Shaun Samson A/W'11

Taken from Goldentheories.tumblr.com

Utter brilliance never seen this fusion of fabrics being done before anywhere else on the catwalk and I'm sure it will not be fading into the background anytime soon. Shaun Samson's inspiration is modern streetwear mixed with latino street culture, prison wear and American workwear what a melting pot huh? He's worked with Jeremy Scott and he is truly one up & coming designer to watch! Click more for more of the collection.
“In this collection I developed a needle punch felting technique that fuses different fabrics together. Once I finalised the fabrics, it was then a matter of finding which ones felted best with others and what colours complemented each look.”

Nail Porn

Taken from thisisnailporn.tumblr.com

Nail art has peaked! A new trend to hit not only the cool kids but also the masses. Though it's been around for a while (remember when Kid Sister "had her toes done up with the finger nails matchin"?) it's become very popular within the last year.

"Wah Nails" salon is the creme de la creme delivering everything from aztec print to  tutti frutti - but  there's a bit of competition insight because nail art profesional Sophy Robson just opened up a new nail art salon on Kings Road in London so I take it there maybe a bit of longevity in it ( check out the video of the launch below). However with that being said I  forecast Eye art is the one to watch out for!

Vertical Farms

Whilst doing research for one of my modules "A world without oil" I came across the concept of the "Vertical Farm" although not new on my radar it has been brought up in a lecture before. However looking deeper into it I am finding the idea quite interesting and that more realistic in terms of urban growth.

Plantagon greenhouse design, geodesic sphere, urban vertical farming

According to Plantagon, their urban greenhouse

“…will dramatically change the way we produce organic and functional food. It allows us to produce ecological [resources] with clean air and water inside urban environments, even major cities, cutting costs and environmental damage by eliminating transportation and deliver directly to consumers.”

Bio - Couture

I know they say money doesn't grow on trees but very soon clothes sure will. With the world starting to run out of natural sources (Oil, Fossil Fuels, Petroleoum, Natural Gas e.t.c). A Senior Researcher of Central Saint Martins Suzanne Lee has come up with the concept of growing fabric/material from bacterial cellulose which will then create garments. Enviromentally friendly and sustainable though still in experimentation mode I think this idea is not only genius but very innovative, you should check out youtube for videos on the process. Here are few examples of what your future clothing might look like.

Shape Shifting Dishwashers

Spotted back in 2009 by a Marissa Brassfeild. These shape-shifting dishwashers are supposed to save time, water and money. Designed By Teo Kai Qiang these innovative washers also re-shape crockery whilst being washed and dried. What you think?
